In addition to all the things God would give to Abraham and his descendants, God promised to make Abraham a blessing to others.  "I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."  (Gen. 12:2-3).  To "bless" conveys the idea of physical and spiritual enrichment.  God would enrich Abraham in order that Abraham might be a blessing to others.
